James Franco and Chris O'Dowd Share A Joke On The Red Carpet On Opening Night For Of Mice Of Men
Apr 17th 2014, 09:30

James Franco and Chris O'Dowd have been receiving great reviews for their Broadway production of John Steinbeck's classic Of Mice And Men and last night it looked as though the actors could breathe easy as they shared a joke on the red carpet on their opening night.

Franco, 35, plays the sharp but uneducated George, while Chris O'Dowd takes on the simple giant Lennie in the American classic which is set in the Great Depression era.

Variety magazine have said that Franco delivers "a performance that's equally honest and beautifully crafted".

George's character is often telling Lennie how the pair will have a farm of their own one day to have lots of animals on their own land.

"Franco has the kind of storytelling voice that can make anyone believe in his dreams," the magazine wrote.

While The Hollywood Reporter has written that the Irish actor's portrayal of Lennie "is tremendous in a part that could easily stray into mawkish territory. His Lennie is trusting innocent, clinging to the rituals of his life with George."

O'Dowd, who is sporting a new shaven head for the part, was joined by his wife Dawn O'Porter last night, who flew in from London.

After watching the opening night, she wrote: "Opening night, Of Mice and Men…. #bravo #tears #moretears #hospitalizedfromcrying #facepermenantlydistortedfromdramaticcrying #soproud".
