What Pop Beef? Lady Gaga Hails 'Sweet' Lily Allen For Supporting Her Music
Apr 16th 2014, 15:10

Lady Gaga has responded to Lily Allen's recent complimentary remarks about her artistic career, describing the 'Air Balloon' singer as "very sweet" and admitting she has always been a fan of the outspoken British star.

Clearly keen to brush away attempts by critics at pitting female singers against each other, Gaga, 28, has reacted positively to comments made by Lily who "commended" the 'G.U.Y.' hitmaker for refusing to bow down to pressure just to sell records and achieve a great chart position.

Responding to Lily's kind words, Gaga told BBC Radio 1's Scott Mills: "That's very sweet, I've always been a very big fan of hers and I appreciate her standing up for artists and for me in particular, that's really admirable for her to do that.

"I think all artists should stand by one another. When it becomes a competition then we're not supporting creativity and art, but when you support one another wholeheartedly then you're supporting everyone and anything to make what they love."

Gaga added: "I thought that was very sweet, so thank you Lily, you're lovely."

In an interview with Rolling Stones, Lily addressed the alleged "competition" between other female pop stars such as Gaga, Rihanna, Katy Perry and Lorde, and her decision to name-drop them on her upcoming album 'Sheezus.'

"It's completely the opposite of that, though. I'm saying that I want all of them to be Sheezus, and I want to be Sheezus too," Lily explained.

"It's just not true. And if she's not succeeding commercially because she's standing by what she does as art, then that's a f**king great thing. That's to be commended. That's what makes a martyr. There's nothing wrong with that."
