X Men Days of Future Past Box Office: Millions For Mutants!
May 23rd 2014, 20:15, by Tyler Johnson

X Men: Days of Future Past just hit theaters last night, but the film is already enjoying mega-box-office and is expected to turn in opening-weekend totals that will dwarf the receipts of its predecessor, X Men: First Class.

The film pulled in over $8 million on Thursday night alone and Marvel Studios is said to have set a goal of $100 million for this weekend.

High hopes, indeed, but certainly within reach, as Memorial Day typically provides one of the biggest box office weekends of the year.

Despite the impressive one-day total, X Men: First Class has fallen shy of the Thursday night numbers reported by other recent big-budget releases such as The Amazing Spider-Man 2 and Captain America: The Winter Soldier.

Such huge numbers across the board have industry analysts predicting one of the most profitable summers that movie studios have seen in recent years.

Just last week, Godzilla's box office was reported at a staggering $93.2 million for its opening weekend alone.

Strong reviews for X Men Days of Future Past are expected to carry the film to impressive weekend totals.

Analysts point out that Memorial Day weekend films often start off slow but outlast other summer releases due to the extra day off enjoyed by millions of Americans.
