Coldplay Bag 2014's Fastest Seller With Sixth No1 Album 'Ghost Stories'
May 26th 2014, 07:43

Coldplay have won their sixth No1 album in as many weeks with Ghost Stories; now the fastest-seller of 2014.

The record, which houses the singles 'Magic' and 'A Sky Full Of Stars', sold 168,000 copies in its first week to dethrone last week's chart-topper from Michael Jackson.

The feat beats the previous year-to-date high set by Paolo Nutini back in April, but is slightly down on the opening sales of their last album Mylo Xyloto; which managed 208,000 in the autumn of 2011.

Jackson slips to No2 with posthumous collection Xscape, while The Beautiful South members Paul Heaton and Jacqui Abbott bow at No3 with What Have We Become.

The anniversary edition of Oasis' Definitely Maybe is a new entry at No5 this week, and in total it is the album's 402nd week on the charts since its release in 1994.

Despite showing in the Top 20 during the midweek countdowns, former The Voice UK reject Bob Blakeley ends up settling for No34 with his debut LP Performance. He was snapped up on live television earlier this year after his failure to get any of the judges on the talent show spinning around left viewers upset.
