Kate Middleton And Prince William Introduce An Excited Prince George To George The Bilby At Sydney Zoo
Apr 20th 2014, 08:18

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge's son seems to have inherited his dad's love of animals

Prince George seems to have inherited his dad's love of wildlife, with the young royal clearly excited by his first trip to the zoo today in Sydney.

Kate Middleton and Prince William celebrated Easter Sunday by taking their son to the renowned Taronga Zoo to meet some of the wildlife, including one very special bilby.

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge officially opened the Prince George Bilby Exhibit at the Sydney landmark, named after their son, who will be nine months old on Tuesday.

The man of the hour was introduced to a three-and-a-half-year-old bilby in the Australian Nightlife enclosure, whose original name was Boy but he was renamed George two months ago to celebrate the Prince's birth.

Little George, the prince, looked adorable in a smart outfit of blue shorts and matching striped collared shirt as he was carried by Kate to the enclosure to meet his new friend. Kate and Wills took it in turns to hold their little prince up as he peered into the enclosure at the bilby.

It sounded like the young royal was keen to take his new friend home as Kate laughed with a zookeeper that "he's trying to grab his ear".

"If he gets it he'll never let go," said William. And when the keeper went to coax the bilby closer to George, Kate was forced to put an end to the fun as she warned of her son: "He's got quite a strong grab actually!"

While William matched his son in a blue ensemble, Kate was looking summery in another yellow number following her gorgeous Sydney arrival look earlier this week. Changing out of her Alexander McQueen outfit she had worn to church in the morning, the Duchess chose one of her favourite dresses, a lemon broderie angalise number she helped design herself with the Queen's tailors, and last wore on a tour to the Solomon Islands in 2012.

After meeting George's new friend, William and Kate unveiled a plaque in the enclosure that read: 'A national gift from the Commonwealth Government to commemorate the birth of His Royal Highness Prince George of Cambridge.'

The baby Prince was also presented with another toy for his growing collection, a stuffed toy bilby as well as a yellow car sticker that said 'Wild child on board', which the prince promptly started to chew on.

Next up for the royal trio is a night in the Australian capital of Canberra, staying at the Governor General's residence, Yarralumla, a former hunting lodge.
