Russell Brand Admits Dodging Train Fare: 'I Couldn't Be Bothered'
Apr 19th 2014, 14:38

Russell Brand is reported to have said that he recently deliberately avoided paying for a train ticket.

The fare was only £14.90, but Brand allegedly said at his podcast recording session in East London on Thursday (April 17) that he didn't fancy forking out.

"From someone that's gone from no wealth to wealth, I know that money doesn't make me happier," he explained, according to The Mirror.

"Like, I jumped the train yesterday when I had to go to Chelmsford. I could have got a ticket but I couldn't be bothered with the rigmarole of getting one.

"I realised all I had to do was get over a barrier so I did that and then slid out the other end behind someone."

A spokesperson from Greater Anglia refused to comment on this individual matter but said, broadly speaking: "We take fare evasion very seriously as it is in the interest of everyone that travels."

It has also been in the news this week that a hedge fund manager was able to dodge £42,000 in train fares by finding a loop hole in the system that granted him a third off.
