Brooks Ayers has just been diagnosed with Stage 3 cancer, and Vicki Gunvalson of The Real Housewives of Orange County is understandably devastated.

Gunvalson expressed her sadness over the troubling turn for on-again, off-again love following his diagnosis of "aggressive and fast-moving" cancer.

"I am very sad about the recent diagnosis of Brooks's cancer reoccurrence," she said.

Added the original cast member, "It really puts life in perspective and makes you realize just how important health, family and friends are during this time."

The Real Housewives of Orange County staple thanked her fans "for respecting his privacy and for all your thoughts and prayers for Brooks during this time."

Ayers was initially diagnosed with Non-Hodgkins lymphoma about a year ago.

Following the recent developments, he's "determined to fight this horrible disease and am surrounded by love and support from people who truly care about me."

"Life is funny sometimes; sometimes it is not," Ayers told Radar this week.

"Let me assure you that I am going to remain positive and continue to battle this disease vigorously with much tenacity along with seeking the appropriate medical care."

Vicki Gunvalson and Brooks Ayers have been together since 2011, shortly after her 2010 split from longtime husband Donn played out on Bravo.

Lately, the embattled couple has been in the news for all the wrong reasons, as video surfaced of Brooks admitting he cheated on her with hookers.

He also copped in another video to hurting her emotionally and physically, leading many fans to decry that apparent reference to domestic abuse.

Whatever happens, we wish the couple the best in this tough time.
