Corey Griffin, ALS Ice Bucket Challenge Fundraiser, Dies at 27
Aug 19th 2014, 10:59, by Hilton Hater

Corey Griffin, one of the men responsible for the ongoing ALS Ice Bucket Challenge fundraiser, is dead at the age of 27.

According to The Boston Globe, Griffin died early Saturday morning, following some kind of diving accident reported as follows by the Nantucket Police Department:

"On August 16, 2014 at 2:00 AM, the Nantucket Police Department received a report of a man missing in the harbor after diving from a building on Straight Wharf. Responding officers determined the missing person was Corey C Griffin."

Griffin played hockey in college and was a good friend of Pete Frates, the former Boston College baseball captain, who has been diagnosed with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS, or Lou Gehrig's Disease).

Along with Frates, Griffin helped spread the #IceBucketChallenge trend, which has brought in millions of dollars for the ALS Association in recent weeks.

Stars from LeBron James to Charlie Sheen to Justin Bieber have helped spread awareness for this horrible disease by pouring a bucket of water on their head and then challenging others to do the same.

"Team FrateTrain lost a good friend today, Corey Griffin," Frates wrote on his Facebook page. "Helping out was nothing new for Griff. He held his own event for me back in 2012, just a few months after diagnosis. He worked his butt off these last few weeks for ALS. We texted everyday, planning and scheming ways to raise funds and plan events...

"God Bless. RIP Corey."
