The Duke of Edinburgh surprised staff at the Doncaster branch of Little Chef by dropping in with his staff and security guards.
One of the waitresses didn't immediately recognise their famous guest but offered him a table, which he politely refused, saying he just wanted to stretch his legs as his staff bought take-away coffee and snacks.
But Prince Philip disappointed onlookers after he failed to order the Little Chef's royal breakfast.
At a bargain £10.99, the chain's standard Olympic breakfast is topped off with a 6oz sirloin steak and would have been the perfect choice for the duke.

But manager, Celia Morrell, was just excited that he'd made an appearance, saying, "It was really exciting and also an honour that they'd picked our Little Chef to come and visit.

"There was quite a large group of them and they were in the take-away area. Prince Philip was wandering around and one of the girls went up and asked him if he would like a table.
"She's only a young girl and she didn't realise who he was.
"I said to her 'do you realise who that was?' and she was amazed when I told her."
It's reported that the duke and his staff arrived at the restaurant at about 11.30 to noon on Thursday, en route to a carriage-driving event in Cumbria.
