People Magazine unveiled Oscar winner Lupita Nyong'o as their Most Beautiful of 2014, but it appears the choice isn't without controversy as the mag have been accused of lightening the actress' skin on the winning cover.
The 12 Years A Slave star was unveiled as this year's winner yesterday on the Today Show. In the accompanying interview she admitted she was pretty over-joyed by the win and had never considered someone with her look could win.
She told the magazine: "Beauty was what I saw on television, you know, light skin and long, flowing, straight hair. Subconsciously you start to appreciate those things more than what you possess.
"My mother always said I was beautiful, and I finally believed her at some point."

However Giles Fabris, the Chief Executive Officer & Director of Operations for LookBetterOnline.com, told RadarOnline that Lupita appears much lighter on the cover: "This is though a classic example of a 'well lit photo' versus a photo with poor lighting.
"She looks washed out in the People magazine photo."
"I don't think that People magazine have lightened her skin in any attempt to 'whiten her,'" he claimed.

"this is evident when looking at the color of her hair… Isn't she beautiful"
Photoshopping has become a major issue in Hollywood and it's not the first time publications have been accused of lightening actress' skin. In January Vanity Fair were also accused of Lupita appearing to have lightened skin on their cover.
