When we heard reports George Clooney and girlfriend Amal Alamuddin were engaged we were a little more than sceptical. While the human rights lawyer is intelligent, beautiful and more than a match for the Hollywood star when it comes to success in their own spheres, the Monuments Men star has long insisted he was never going to get married.
The cautious star who, has been in the spotlight for three decades and knows what to do to avoid the tabloids, seems the last person in Hollwood who would get hitched in a whirlwind romance. While it would be nice to believe it, the star, who is very much focused on his career both in front and behind the cameras, is an unlikely candidate for a shotgun wedding especially to someone so non-showbiz who has her own career to consider.
George and Amal were first linked last October after they were spotted having dinner together. At the time the star took the unusual step of denying the relationship, something Clooney, who has been linked to just about every female star and some male ones, rarely does.

At the time a spokesperson for Clooney told People magazine, after he'd been linked to three women in one week: " He wants Amal to be able to prosecute cases without being hassled because she had one dinner with George and four others … I even asked George if these [rumours] were true and he said he never comments on his private life, but in the interest of stopping the harassment of all three of these women, he felt he should."
While he could well have been cautious when it came to announcing a romance, in an interview in December he told the magazine he'd yet to meet the love of his life.
In a Q&A session with W Magazine when asked who was the love of his life he answered: "I haven't met her yet."
By this time Amal and George had been spotted on a few dates. While again he may have just been playing his cards close to his chest, it shows Clooney as the careful type not a candidate to rush into anything.
He's the complete opposite of the jumping on the sofa Tom Cruise type and with Amal very unHollywood a whirlwind romance and wedding would no doubt draw even more attention to their relationship which has barely reached the six month mark
. Heap on top of that the very fact Clooney has insisted he'll never marry again and we find it hard to believe he's popped the question this early.
