REVIEW: Game Of Thrones Season 4 Episode 3: Breaker Of Chains
Apr 21st 2014, 18:48

Last week on 'Game Of Thrones' we saw the ultimate demise of one of the shows main characters King Joffrey and this week we discover how everyone deals with his shocking death.

Weddings aren't something that are ever likely to run smooth on 'Game Of Thrones' we've already had The Red Wedding and now The Purple Wedding but now, we have to deal with the aftermath as people discover the King is dead. Here are five things we learned from this weeks episode "Breaker Of Chains".

1. Sansa makes it away from Kings Landing but why?

Towards the end of last week's episode we watched as Sansa was taken away from the wedding in a hurry by one of the Kings servants but why? Did she have anything to do with his death or would people assume she had because of what Joffrey had done to her family? Possibly. In the episode tonight we witnessed her leave Kings Landing on a rowing boat just in time it seems after a distraught Cersei realised that she had vanished. The Kings Guard Tywin called for the city to be on lockdown but it was too late. Sansa made it off the island and onto a boat where she was greeted by Littlefinger who quietens a screaming Sansa down after he makes sure the drunk knight who helped her is killed, after all, he only saved her for the money. Was Littlefinger involved? What would he want with Sansa?

2. Tywin prepares the new King while an upset Cersei looks on.

Cersei has just lost her son, we know that but for Tywin it's time to look forward and prepare for the next King which will be Tommen Baratheon, the youngest Lannister. Tywin, showing no apparent remorse over the death of Joffrey begins quizzing the young boy about what it takes to become a good King and after all the questions, he seems to have gotten them all right and pleased the Kings Guard. He approves it seems. Still, it's difficult not to feel for Cersei no matter how much you dislike her, unless of course she was somehow involved? Would she be so evil - to kill her own son just to get rid of Tyrion afterall that's who everyone it seems is blaming.

What happened in tonight's episode? (HBO / Sky)

3. Arya and The Hound are beginning to get along, sort of...

For a while now it seemed like Arya and The Hound would never get along but with no one else, the young Stark girl only has him to rely on it seems and as they're washing their horses by a bridge they are greeted with a stranger and his daughter. They begin talking and Arya quickly takes over from The Hound who as we know isn't the most friendly of people. She calls him her Father and makes up a story about how they were in a fire and lost her mother.

The stranger takes sympathy as he tells them a storm is coming and invites them back for food. As they go back for rabbit stew - which his daughter has made they clearly haven't eaten anything like it for quite sometime as most of it ends up on the table. The stranger offers The Hound some work in exchange for some silver and to Arya's surprise he accepts. Until the morning at least when he appears to have attacked the stranger and took his gold. Arya isn't happy but she follows him anyway calling him "the worst s*** in the Seven Kingdoms". It's progress though, they're not trying to kill each other.

4. Sam takes Gilly away to protect her and the baby.

Over at Castle Black Sam is still being troubled about Gilly and baby Sam, being the only female in Castle Black Sam doesn't trust the rest of them around the girl he's clearly grown fond of. They pair talk while plucking chickens and eventually Sam arranges for her to live in a brothel in a nearby town, he arranges for her to stay there saying that she can cook, clean and look after the other girls' babies - but nothing else! Gilly isn't happy by the decision and gives Sam the cold shoulder, she was happy where she was and now feels abandoned by her only friend - though he really is just looking out for her after all some of the men at Castle Black were thieves and rapists.

5. The Mother of Dragons is expanding, her army at least.

Daenerys Targaryen made an appearance in the episode tonight travelling to the gates of Meereen. They send out a knight on a horse who is better known as the "Champion of Meereen", he greets them by urinating on the ground and calling her a man. Bad move! Obviously looking to take on her best fighter several step up to the plate but the Mother of Dragons declines, reminding them of their place in her army, she won't gamble with just anyone's life. Daario Naharis decides to offer his services but doesn't require a horse, as the "Champion of Meereen" charges towards them, he pulls out a dagger, kisses it then throws it straight into the horses head, the horse collapses and then using his sword he kills him.

This, for the people of Meereen is a shocking scene of events who reply with the firing of arrows, which land a fair bit away from anyone. The episode ends rather suddenly with Daenerys ordering the firing of barrels towards Meereen which when break, show the shackles, open from previously slaves that she has welcomed into her army. The big question is though, what fate will Tyrion face after he faces trial in several weeks, it seems like everyone is out to get him and with his wife gone, will they link the death of Joffrey to him even more now?
