New Woman! Nicki Minaj Ditches Pop For New Album and Talks 'Shocking' Ladylike Transformation
Apr 22nd 2014, 14:28

Nicki Minaj has been turning heads on the red carpet in recent months after stripping back her previously make-up heavy look and ditching the wacky costumes but that's not the only shocking change to come for the rapper as she reveals that fans shouldn't expect to hear pop tracks such as 'Starships' on her next album.

The 'Lookin' A*s' rapper is currently promoting her first major movie role in 'The Other Woman' which also stars Cameron Diaz and Leslie Mann, and it's clear Nicki, 31, wants to be taken seriously with her bright wigs and obscenely revealing outfits nowhere to be seen and in their place, demure designer dresses, sleek black hair and a natural make-up look.

Talking about her dramatic transformation, Nicki told MTV News: "I went so far to the other side that there's only one place to go from there. You can either continue doing costumes or you can just say, 'Hey guess what? This will shock them even more. Doing nothing will shock them even more.'"

While she's now making a foray into movies, Nicki isn't turning her back on music with her third album 'The Pink Print' in the pipeline for later this year, and while she's stormed the charts with pop tracks such as 'Starships' and 'Super Bass' in the past, the rapper will now be taking it back to basics with a raw hip-hop sound.

"The tracks on Pink Print are back to my hip-hop roots. And I don't think it's something that I'm necessarily trying to do," Nicki explained.

"As soon as I started working on my new album, that's just the songs that I've been writing. I'm just gonna do what my heart tells me to do."

When asked if the pop songs will make an appearance, Nicki replied with a straight: "Hell no."
