'It's Not As Bubbly And Bright': Paolo Nutini Talks New Album As 'Caustic Love' Races To Number One
Apr 17th 2014, 13:18

Paolo Nutini is on a mission to success with his brand new album 'Caustic Love' which is on course to soar to number one this weekend and the crooner has reflected on the recording process, admitting that it didn't turn out to be as "bubbly and bright" as the last.

The 27-year-old stopped by the BBC Radio 1 studios in Maida Vale earlier today where he recorded a Live Lounge session with Fearne Cotton and discussed his latest album which is currently raging on the UK charts, sitting pretty at number one on the midweek countdown, likely becoming the fastest-selling album of the year so far.

Explaining how he recorded the critically-acclaimed record which is his first release since 2009's number one 'Sunny Side Up,' Paolo told Fearne: "I was writing every day but I was filling my time up with other stuff. It just kind of built up over time, we write a tonne of songs and then the album just kind of formed itself.

"I've wanted to come back with something that wasn't taking itself too seriously."

He added: "I think the album's got a different tone to it, it's certainly not as bubbly and bright. I thought that [Scream] was a good way to get the ball rolling."

Last month, Paolo revealed that he has plans to release another album in a year's time which has no doubt delighted fans following his lengthy absence.

"Ideally, I'd like another album out within a year," Paolo said according to BBC News ahead of the Teenage Cancer Trust at the Royal Albert Hall.

During his Live Lounge performance, Paolo sang his critically-acclaimed single 'Scream (Funk My Life Up)' and a cover of Recover by Chvrches.

'Caustic Love' has raced ahead of its competition in the midweek charts after shifting more than 59,000 copies in its first few days meaning it could trump Sam Bailey's first week sales of 73,000 units, making it the fastest-selling album of 2014.
