Could you envision Lucy Hale as Anastasia Steele?
This was nearly a reality, as the Pretty Little Liars star tried out for the role that ended up going to Dakota Johnson.
How did it go?
It was "unlike any audition I have ever done before in my life," Hale told MTV this week. "It actually was just me. It was a two-page monologue of exactly what you would think it would be. Very uncomfortable, but it was sort of one of those things where you just had to go for it or you're just gonna look lame."
Hale didn't elaborate, but we'd have to imagine some bondage of S&M was involved in her reading.
Stars from Kristen Stewart to Lily Collins to Nina Dobrev was rumored to be eyeing the racy role of a college-aged girl who falls for a billionaire tycoon, one with an eccentric sexual appetite.
Hale also described her audition scene as something "I don't want my grandmother watching," which is fairly understandable.
With Johnson as Anastia and Jamie Dornan as Christian, Fifty Shades of Grey will open on February 13, 2015.
