Julianne Hough is now able to look back on her failed romances with a clear perspective and says none of them, including her three-year relationship with Ryan Seacrest, worked out because she always felt the need to be "perfect."
The Dancing With The Stars champion has been dating hockey player Brooks Laich since December 2013, and while she's had her fair share of relationships in the past, Julianne admits she didn't always feel comfortable.

"Every relationship, there was nothing wrong or bad, but there was nothing right," Julianne explained to Redbook in a candid interview.
"I had one foot out because I didn't want to get hurt. And I didn't say what was on my mind because I didn't want to ruffle any feathers. I needed to be perfect."
Opening up about her new romance with Brooks, Julianne added: "Now I'm not holding anything back, because I'd rather get my heart broken than never know what it is to be completely, madly in love. If I had been this open in my last relationship, who knows?"
After three years of dating, Julianne, 25, and American Idol host Ryan Seacrest, 39, ended their romance in March 2013 and the pro dancer and actress took some time out of the dating scene for herself.

"I had this epiphany when my family went to a six-day seminar [last November] about creating your own destiny," Julianne revealed.
"I learned so much about myself and why my relationships didn't work that by the end I was on a high. I was seeing a couple people, but immediately [pretends to text guys], 'You are nice, but this is going nowhere.'"
"The next day my Curve co-star introduced [Brooks and me]," she said. "It couldn't have been a better time. We've been open and honest from day one."
